Maximalism: The only constant is change

Bold is Gold

Maximalism is about dynamism. Not only is it the perfect antidote to austerity, but also a source of excitement and a space to experiment. This Kolkata home does not conform to a single style of design. Over the years, it has evolved out of collecting art and artefacts during the owners’ trips around the world.

The landing outside the apartment is paneled with teak wood and adorned with the Luce Naga Four Bulb Wall Light. Gorgeous tropical wallpaper greets visitors, as the eye does not know where to rest- at Paola Navone’s Chester Moon sofa for Baxter, a fantastic glass mosaic from Berengo Studio, Skygarden lamps by Marcel Wanders, or our Fools’ Gold tables. If the Baccarat chandelier isn’t enough to enamour one, adding to the grandeur are lights from Paul Bert Serpette, the world’s largest antique market. A spacious passage inside contains the Vanilla Noir General and a host of vintage Bengali cupboards. All this tied up gently together leaves one slightly breathless.
