From authentic, classic dishes to modern plates with a twist, these eateries have something for every mood. Here are our favourite new restaurants in Mumbai that offer inspiring cuisine, striking design and impeccable service. These eateries are currently open for dine-in with stringent health and safety precautions in place.
Polenta Soufflé at Sequel, BKC
SEQUEL, BANDRA KURLA COMPLEX (BKC)
Sequel is a farm-to-table, vegan-friendly bistro with locations in Kala Ghoda, Bandra and Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. The newest Sequel outpost in BKC opened to the public in October 2020. Designed by interior designer Ashiesh Shah, this new restaurant comprises three different sections—a grab-and-go area, a casual bistro section, and a more upscale, formal dining room. Sequel, BKC showcases a blend of Shah’s trademark ‘Wabi-Sabi’ design aesthetic with understated luxury. The interiors are futuristic while still being raw and earthy. The restaurant has a monotone colour palette with rough, textured walls, and a patterned, terracotta brick floor. The restaurant exudes a sense of timelessness with its soft edges and continuous, natural forms, which complete themselves in organic, handcrafted materials. Additionally, naturally lacquered, off-white Channapatna beads, handmade in Karnataka, float seven feet above the ground, in a spectacular installation that offers a warm glow.

You can expect Sequel’s signature experimental and wholesome dishes in their new outpost as well. The emphasis is on a series of small, sharing plates, as well as some one-of-a-kind dishes as well. Don’t miss their Polenta Soufflé, Smoked Lotus Root Fritters with Greek yogurt, red radish and Kashmiri walnuts, Edamame and Chickpea Falafels with coriander sauce, smoked aubergine and pickled beetroot, Tempeh Burger, Jacket Sweet Potato and the Apple Wood-Smoked Black Rice with lotus root. For dessert, the Dark Chocolate Cake with cacao ganache, and the Poached Pears with vanilla ice cream and seed crumble are incredible! Sequel BKC’s dishes are made with the freshest local produce and ingredients such as cold-pressed extra virgin olive oils, cashew cheese, Kashmiri walnuts and morels, gondhraj lemon, fresh seasonal herbs, Himalayan polenta and lotus root.

Located in the quaint lanes of Todi Mills is the newly opened, elegant yet chic, all-day-dining bistro Café Panama. Spread over 3500 sq. ft., this trendy eatery, which opened in February 2021 features a 30-foot high ceiling enveloped by a giant glass roof open to the sky. Café Panama’s ambiance has a dash of nostalgia whilst still being eclectic and striking. The interiors of the restaurant showcase a ‘Tropical Glam’ design aesthetic and will instantly transport you to Central America! Café Panama’s interiors were conceptualised and executed by the founding team themselves. Inspired by the vibrant culture of Panama, the restaurant’s furniture is an amalgamation of modern and traditional and features gilded details and luxurious fabrics. The sprawling space is divided into a cosy booth section, a lounge, a bar and an intimate private dining room with verdant décor and accents.

Café Panama serves delectable classic European fare with a Latin twist. Chef Dev Singh Negi has whipped up an elaborate food menu using the cleanest, indigenous ingredients. Start your feast with the Burrata Salad and Mango Salsa, Corn Tamale (typical grilled Mexican corn cakes baked in corn husks served with aged mole sauce), Lamb and Eggplant Empanadas, and Teriyaki Chicken Wings. Thereafter, order the Argentinian Flat Breads, Jamaican ‘Curried’ Lamb Shank and Coconut Risotto. Finally, you can’t miss Café Panama’s mouth-watering desserts—Tres Leches, Biscoff Cheesecake, and the Bitter Chocolate Mousse. The celebrity-favourite, Bandra-based eatery—Bastian has opened its second outpost at the Bombay Dyeing Mills compound in Worli, Mumbai. Bastian, Worli, which was launched in December 2020, is an ode to a luxurious lifestyle, curated with the fine eye of a well-travelled connoisseur. Interior designer Minal Chopra has designed the restaurant. With a capacity to host over 200 guests, this new stylish restaurant features awe-inspiring interiors such as a 40-feet high ceiling, a 28-foot tall bar, resplendent with Art Deco flourishes, an open kitchen, multiple dining areas and even a private dining section. Bastian, Worli is a multi-cuisine eatery with a focus on Mexican, Latin American, European and Asian flavours.

Our favourites from Bastian, Worli’s diverse menu include Mom’s Singapore Curry, Watermelon Carpaccio, Avocado Poke, Lobster Dynamite, Malaysian Noodles and Lobster Bacon Kimchi Fried Rice. Helmed by Chef Amol Phute and Chef Victor Manuel Murguia Mancilla, the eatery’s food menu is unconventional, vibrant and oh-so-satisfying! Additionally, you can’t visit Bastian and not indulge in their decadent desserts. Post working at a number of Michelin-star restaurants and creating scrumptious desserts at Tiffany's Blue Box Café for events such as Priyanka Chopra’s bridal shower, Chef Freny Fernandes has unveiled Monèr Bistro and Dessert Bar in Bandra, Mumbai.As homage to her parents, Monèr is a portmanteau of their names. This out-of-the-box eatery and dessert bar opened in December 2020 and features whimsical dishes and luxe interiors. Elegant yet casual, this lively restaurant is reminiscent of an upscale Paris neighbourhood bistro. Monèr was designed by interior designer Bhumika Sehgal and features a teal and pink colour palette with gilded touches. The Insta-worthy space comprises minimalist tables and plush pink velvet sofas along with a glass shelf dessert bar, a plating counter for the chef to entertain at and a private dining area with high bar stools.

Monèr is a bistro by day, serving a range of savoury items that include fresh salads and soups, sandwiches, French-style petit gateaux, and entremets. However, just like a fairy tale as soon as the clock strikes 7 pm, the space transforms into a modern dessert bar exclusively dishing out exquisite desserts in three-course or five-course meals. These bold dishes are served with drinks that complement their flavours and mesmerise your palate. Savour the 5-course menu, complete with choices of desserts such as Jardin du Rose, Chocolate Coulant and Phases of the Moon. Our favourite is Chef Freny’s Jardin Du Rose, which is a delicate raspberry and rose parfait in the shape of a rose that is served with a pistachio air cake, handmade pistachio baklava, chocolate soil, rose caviar and edible flowers.
