'Scarlet Scenes 2020' comprises whimsical and inspiring pieces in collaboration with famous modern furniture designers

Last year, Scarlet Splendour launched a number of whimsical and inspiring pieces in collaboration with famous modern furniture designers. This new product series titled ‘Scarlet Scenes 2020’ was scheduled to be introduced at Salonedel Mobile 2020 in Milan, which was cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. However, the luxury Indian design brand has gone ahead and launched their exquisite new range through an online campaign.

‘Scarlet Scenes 2020’ includes pieces from Matteo Cibic’s Animagic collection, Nika Zupanc’s 88 Secrets and Strings collections, the Oasis collection by Richard Hutten, Marcantonio’s Forest collection, Elena Salmistraro’s iDanaztori collection, and the Kaizen collection by Sacha Andraos, Lorenzo Scisciani and Salvatore Morales. These new pieces are divers - from metaphorical to abstract, glamorous to modern. They can transform any space into a spectacular scene fit for the silver screen.

Inspired by Mother Nature

The Animagic collection by Matteo Cibic is a celebration of animal forms in andromorphic design, as showcased by the Elie Cabinet. This quirky, structural piece is humorous, luxurious and functional. Elie Cabinet is a fantastical elephant featuring a brass head and a smart white uniform, which opens up as a storage space. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, it sparks people’s curiosity and offers an opportunity for light-hearted humor in everyday life.

Evocative of the 88 constellations officially recognised by NASA, each piece from the 88 Secrets range tells a tale. This collection was released in collaboration with designer Nika Zupanc. This year, the 88 Secrets Screen has been introduced. The luxurious design of the 88 Secrets Screen features a gold metal frame with carefully pleated silk fabrics in two colours—violet and blue. This screen exhibits Nika Zupanc’s consistent yet ambiguous understanding of femininity and romanticism, as well as Scarlet Splendour’s unique workmanship and timeless design.

With each one-of-a-kind product in the Forest collection by Italian sculptor and designer Marcantonio, the aim was to bring the forest into a home. A range that began as only a chair, now comprises a number of pieces including cabinets, chairs, sofas, rugs and lamps. The eccentric Forest collection inspired by nature, elicits mystery, humour and originality through quirky forms, tasteful colour tones and exquisite brass finishes. The pieces present an “elegant irony”—forms that are almost caricatures of animals and plants coupled with luxurious materials and meticulous techniques.

Talking about the Forest Chair from this collection, Marcantonio says, “With Scarlet Splendour, we are presenting the Forest Chair, which is a very sculptural chair. It is a unique piece of art; it reminds you of a tree, but at the same time, it is suggestive of a walking octopus. This hybrid animal sculpture strongly evokes nature.”

Evocative of Movement and Repetition

The iDanaztori collection by Elena Salmistraro is an ode to ethnic dance forms. The Chhau Donna Cabinet from this range was launched this year. This cabinet offers a symphony of vibrant colours and an eye-catching form that is reminiscent of the movement and rhythm of a dancer. The striking form of the exterior, continues within, to unveil a plethora of colours and shapes. This piece instantly enhances the interior decoration of any home.

Furthermore, Nika Zupanc magically achieves lightness in the Strings collection, by taking “strings” of metal, and metamorphosing them into arresting furniture. This year, new pieces were added to this range. “The idea behind the Strings collection is to use just one element, in this case a metal bar. Three-dimensional objects are created out of repetition. This year, we are launching new products in the Strings collection, which were already successful last year. These comprise a sofa, a coffee table and a vanity set,” said Zupanc.

Unique Concepts

Based on the Japanese philosophy of kaizen, which translates to ‘change for better’, the Kaizen collection by furniture designers Sacha Andraos, Lorenzo Scisciani and Salvatore Morales, of Artefatto Design Studio, is aimed at eliminating waste while improving design. The hypnotic Kaizen Credenza was launched in the market this year. With the use of experimental technology and innovative materials, the sleek Kaizen Credenza features a daring and thought-provoking design aesthetic that celebrates the fluidity of motion.

Finally, Richard Hutten’s mirror and sideboard from the Oasis collection, which are highly visual and stylish, were released as well. Adorned in gleaming brass spheres reminiscent of “thorns” on a succulent cactus, the new pieces are rooted in Scarlet Splendour’s trademark luxurious design ethos. The latest Oasis Sideboard has a glistening white exterior with brass “thorns” and pale blue interiors that add a contemporary and distinctive touch to any space.
